Disaster Mitigation - Rescues - Emergency Housing

Our mission is the preservation of veterans and elderly life that reside in nursing homes before during and after disasters.

Hands Over homes is a 501 (c) 3 Non-Profit.

Before the Storm

Before the storm a simple check list that helps mitigate potential vulnerabilities, for example: Replacing spark plugs in back up generators checking exit signs, evacuation routes, and emergency evacuation contacts.

During the Storm

When everyone is riding out the storm, Hands Over Home rides into the storm, supporting any volunteer nursing homes that may be in the immediate path of the storm, help with rescue or relocation, or at the very least sitting out a storm with the vulnerable nursing home.

After the Storm

When a natural disaster strikes, we are there to help preserve life and safety. We will do this by boat or land-based search and recovery operations as well helping with the clean up of homes lost due in destruction from these disasters.

The Problem

The abandonment, neglect, and death of elderly and veterans before, during and after disaster strikes.

My name is John Allison and I am the founder of Hands Over Homes. My background is in rebuilding communities, completing repairs, and restorations. I’ve been a builder of many things my whole life, but have always been focused on rebuilding places destroyed by disasters. After bearing witness to several hurricanes and their path of destruction that was left behind, a harsh reality of its toll hit home for me. During disasters, our veterans and the elderlys endure mistreatment at the hands of those put in place to care for them.

Due to non-working generators and lack of basic necessities, many residents suffered heat strokes that resulted in death.

Local Emergency Housing Initiative

HOH’s Emergency Housing Initiative offers a lifeline after unforeseen disasters, acting as a bridge between crisis and stability.  We believe providing emergency housing after a disaster with modified storage containers can be a powerful tool for saving and restoring lives.  These pop up-style structures can be assembled quickly for housing, medical stations, and mechanic stations.  This innovation will help Hands Over Homes stand out in emergency rescue and relief efforts as an effective partner of first responders and relief organizations.
